Three baby dugongs saved.

Three stranded baby dugongs were transfer from beach to be treated, rehydrated and then return to sea where they belong. Hope they reunited with their mother or adopted by another female dugong. Adoption of young babies even of other species is quite common in marine mammals. 

Dugong Stranding Qatar

 On the 16th August 2022 a female adult dugong was reported stranded on a beach at south east part of Qatar. Ministry of Environment & Climate Change sent me and my colleagues to the site to take measurements and find the possible cause of dead.  There was a cut on the head, There were blood near its head and nose. We took photos and measurements 262cm female .its possible cause of death likely to be boat collision. It was healthy and no sign of fish net entanglement. We dissect it on site remove the internal organs and took it back to storage for future education and exhibition use.

      Professor John Wong is a One of the pioneers Marine conservationist in Asia. He has carried out marine mammal and ecological studies and help Hong   Kong And China government to set up Marine Protected Areas in early 1990s. He has been appointed advisor to China and Qatar governments related to marine environmental protection. He has received a Gold Star Award on Marine   Conservation and Education by International Biographical Centre Cambridge England. He is advisor to Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of State of Qatar.

Three stranded baby orphan dugongs were saved in Qatar.

Three stranded baby dugongs were saved from dehydration and starvation, after their wounds were treated and rehydration and fed with milk, then trained to eat seagrass finally returned to the sea early this month.
